College of Optometry


The College of Optometry develops highly qualified Optometrists who provide excellent eye and vision care for people through the creative use of technology to advance instruction, research and clinical practice, sustained linkages with local and international agencies to deliver the full spectrum of Optometric services to the community.
The Doctor of Optometry program aims to produce eye-care professionals trained to examine, analyze and manage refractive errors and other visual problems. The program prepares future competent and morally upright Optometrists who will provide quality eye and vision care for people. The College seeks to pursue excellence in the academic community, internship, and patient care programs for its faculty, staff and students.
The Ophthalmic Lens (Optical Laboratory) services program enables students to gain skills in optical laboratory management and processing of prescription eyeglasses. This is a two-year program leading to a Certificate in Ophthalmic Lens Services NC II (TESDA approved).
The MCU College of Optometry holds the distinction of being the only optometry school in the Philippines to have a Center of Excellence status. COE refers to a department within a higher education institution which continuously demonstrates excellent performance in the areas of instructional quality, research and publication, extension and linkages and institutional qualifications. MCU Optometry was awarded as the Center of Development in 2009.
In December 23, 2015, MCU Optometry program was granted Center of Excellence (COE) by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). This was announced through CHED Memorandum Order No. 38 Series of 2015.
In its continuing effort to provide quality education, MCU Optometry has established several linkages for the benefit of its students and the college such as membership in Asia Pacific Council of Optometry and VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity) International. Also in 2015, MCU and Essilor Philippines Optical Distribution, Inc. opened the first Essilor Sight Center in the Philippines.
