Manila Central University forged a partnership with the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) in a “Commitment of Support” signing last August 30, 2018 the PNRC’s Headquarters in Mandaluyong City. MCU is a pioneer partner in the formation of the PNRC Institute for Public Health Emergencies (IPHE) with three (3) other schools in Metro Manila.

“The Institute for Public Health Emergencies is a timely initiative to address the need for volunteers that could help prepare for and respond to public health threats,” Sen. Richard J. Gordon, Chairman of the Philippine National Red Cross said in his address.

The partnership entails MCU Nursing students’ immersion in extensive community-based emergency and disaster management as part of their community related learning experience. They will also be a part of the PNRC’s national pool of student-volunteers.
Graduates of the IPHE were recognized for successfully completing the pilot program. Among the first batch of graduates were MCU College of Nursing faculty members Dr. Cyril S. Consuelo and Prof. Elena C. Diasen.

Also in the same program, Prof. Melvin D. Miranda, Dean of the MCU College of Nursing and the PNRC Caloocan Chapter were recognized for their exemplary presentation in the Basic Leadership Course in Organizing Community-based Public Health Teams on Preparedness and Response.
