The Philippines, represented by the MCU College of Dentistry team placed third in the 94th General Session and Exhibition of the International Association for Dental Research – Student Clinician Program (IADR-SCR) held in Seoul in South Korea last June 24, 2016.

Alejandro Donesa Jr. of the MCU team presented their research material entitled, “Flexural Strength of Heat Cured Acrylic Denture Base Reinforced with Water Hyacinth Fiber”. The other team members are Patricia Dyan Ligon, Airha Gay Daquiz, Nelson Egwakhe and Princess Avigail Gapusan.“To represent the Philippines in an international research competition is the most unforgettable experience I have had in my life,” Donesa Jr. said. “And winning was the best.”

The contest was participated by six Southeast Asian countries, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore and the Philippines.
“I want to thank MCU for molding us into what we are right now and for training us to be outstanding future dentists,” Donesa added.
The contest was part of the 3rd Meeting of the IADR Asia Pacific Region and the 35th Annual Meeting of the IADR Korean Division that was held last June 22 to 25, 2016.

Donesa acknowledged his co-authors, college dean Dr. Ma. Cristina Aurea Garcia, research advisers Dr. Filipina Ng and Dr. Ruel Briones, their family and friends for their support and encouragement.

The research study won the Grand Prize in the International Association for Dental Research – Southeast Asia (IADR-SEA) Dentsply Student Clinician Research Program Country Level Competition last March 22, 2016. MCU team members graduated Doctor of Dental Medicine last April 2016 and will take the board examination on December 2016.
