The growing awareness of the need to rehabilitate disabled patients and the outstanding scientific breakthrough in rehabilitation increased the demand for physical therapists.
As MCU is predominantly a science-based institution it was compelled to set-up the College of Physical Therapy to accommodate the changing needs of the society.
During the second semester of the School year 1994-1995, the College of Physical Therapy started with 45 students under the wings of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Official recognition of the College of Physical Therapy came after the appointment of Dr. Jose Redentor C. Bucu, as the first Dean of the College.
In the summer of 1995, MCU attended to the other requirements of the new college. In response to the special needs of the College, a rehabilitation room, anatomy laboratory and Physiology laboratory was constructed in the FDT building and the fifth floor of the administration building respectively. Miss Beatriz B. Quiyan, a faculty member of the College of Medical Technology, was appointed as the College’s first College Secretary. Mr. Ariel P. Ronquillo and three other registered physical therapists were hired as faculty members to teach the third year proper students, while General Education subjects were temporarily handled by faculty members from the College of Arts and Sciences.
During the school year 1995-1996, the College opened its doors to 796 enrollees, with second and third year levels dominated by transferees from other colleges and universities.
During the school year 1996-1997, the college had its own set of faculty members for the first and second year levels and Mr. Ariel P. Ronquillo, PTRP was appointed as the new College Secretary. At this point the college had sent its first batch of Physical Therapy Interns to different centers and hospitals for the clinical internship program. Following this, the College had its first batch of graduates for the school year 1997-1998, and its first batch of board passer on August 1998 and February 1999.
During the 2nd semester of school year 1998-1999, the college had the opportunity to hire its own graduates as faculty members. Ms. Ma. Aurora S.
